FLOYD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Minutes (approved) of regular meeting May 3, 2010.
Members present: Keith McCamy, Rosemary Gabriel, Nancy Fischer,
Maggi Travis, Buffy Hartmann, Diane Mulvaney, Michael Collins and
Director Lisa Richland.
Absent: none.
The Board meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
The minutes of April 5, 2010 were approved on motion of 1) Travis,
2). Mulvaney, unanimous.
The bills were ordered paid on motion of 1) Mulvaney, 2) Collins,
unanimous. The treasurer’s reports were accepted and
filed for audit.
Communications The Friends of the Heart Institute of Doylestown,
PA have donated a book to us on behalf of Herman Silverman and
his wife Liz Serkin (former Greenporters and Library patrons). A
Greenport resident, and active Library patron, Seth Kaufman writes
to declare his interest in joining the Board of Trustees. Nancy
Fischer will reply, asking him to attend the June meeting.
Adding to the Director’s Report, Lisa Richland has been
thinking of a significant re-ordering of the shelving. The
Fiction section and the Non-Fiction section have practically the
same shelving requirements. Switching them, putting Fiction
upstairs and Non-Fiction (and public computers) downstairs with
Periodicals and Biography could have good consequences, increasing
Non-Fiction circulation and improving librarian presence in the
front room. There are many considerations, but they are deemed
worthy of pursuit on a motion of 1) Mulvaney, 2) McCamy, unanimous.
Committees:
Budget & Finance: The proposed 2011 budget is about $8000
under the 2010 budget. This has been achieved without cutting
salaries, by carefully redistributing budget items that have been,
as a rule, over-estimated in the past. The budget will be
offered for approval at the June meeting.
Public Relations. The prominent display of President Obama’s
newly released Biography in the circulation area provoked a query
from a patron, satisfied by Lisa’s expression of respect
for the Office of the President, and by her pointing out that Sarah
Palin’s book has been similarly displayed since it came out
last August.
Building & Grounds: the sign is getting repaired. The
battered plant near the entrance should probably be moved to safer
location.
Garden: The raised bed planting has begun. Thinking is
that the kiddies can plant their stuff in the inner, western, boxes. The
front boxes – more visible from the sidewalk – can
be planted by the committee.
Personnel: Library patron and mother and grandmother of
librarians, Poppy and Lily, is undergoing heart repair this week. Our
thoughts and best wishes are with them all.
Meeting adjourned at 7:55 on a motion of McCamy. The next
meeting will be Monday, June 7, 2010, at 7:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Keith McCamy, secretary
