MINUTES OF MAY MEETING

JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH APRIL MAY JUNEJULYAUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER

FLOYD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Minutes (approved) of regular meeting May 2, 2011.

Members present: Keith McCamy, Rosemary Gabriel, Maggi Travis,  Seth Kaufman, Melina Angelson and Director Lisa Richland.

Absent, Diane Mulvaney, Buffy Hartmann.

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm.

The minutes of  April 4, 2011 were approved, on motion of 1) Travis, 2) Angelson, unanimous.

Three public guests introduced themselves, interested members of the community, one a library school attendant.

The bills were ordered paid on motion of 1) Angelson, 2) McCamy, unanimous.  The treasurer’s reports were accepted and filed for audit.

Communications: Our reply to Tyler H. M. Grace of Greenport presenting himself as a candidate for coming vacancy on the board was returned, “addressee unknown”.  Richard J. Bonforte, M.D. of Greenport communicates his interest in being considered a candidate for future board membership.

Adding to the Director’s Report, the collection transfer (swapping positions of Fiction and Non-Fiction) began today without the presence of the elevator engineer that had been arranged for, and promised.  Lisa and Poppy enacted several minor repairs to keep it going.  The transfer is proceeding on schedule.  The Village of Greenport will put a bright “down light” in the dark spot west of the building, to discourage night-time drug dealing.  We are also considering a surveillance video camera.  Lisa would like to attend the “Day of Dialog” preceding the Book Expo America in Manhattan.  She will be there on May 23, 24, & 25.  We approve.

Committees:

Budget & Finance – the proposed budget is completed.  After two years of level assessment, reflecting the economic rigors of our community, the Library needs to increase its income by 2%.  The tax rate for 2012 will increase by 5% compared to 2010, about $10 for the average household.  There will  be no raises for Library Administrators.

Buildings & Grounds – the loose bricks on the walk by the bicycle rack will be re-mortared..

Friends Liason – new members welcomed.  The median age of the Friends is lowering.

Meeting adjourned at 7:27 on a motion of Angelson.  The next meeting will be June 6, at 7:00 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Keith McCamy, secretary
