MINUTES OF OCTOBER MEETING

JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH APRIL MAY JUNEJULYAUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER

FLOYD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Minutes (approved) of regular meeting October 5, 2009.

Members present: Keith McCamy, Rosemary Gabriel, Nancy Fischer, Maggi Travis, Michael Collins, Buffy Hartmann, Diane Mulvaney and Director Lisa Richland.

Absent: none.

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.

The minutes of September 14, 2009 were approved on motion of 1) Travis, 2). Collins, unanimous.

The bills were ordered paid on motion of 1) McCamy, 2) Hartmann, unanimous.  The treasurer’s reports were accepted and filed for audit.

Communications.  SCLS announces is annual Trustee Workshop on November 4, subject “Marketing Your Library”.

Director’s Report additions:  Lily will start work on Thursday; she has already put in a day attending a Y.A. Librarian workshop.  Lisa has found an appropriate desk for her, oak, craftsman.  The High Line trip may be cancelled due to insufficient entrants, but the possibility of using a smaller van will be investigated.  Next year’s Public Library Association convention will be attended by Poppy, Joe and Lily and possibly Lisa.  Since travel is cheaper when you make early reservations we should do it now.  Approved.  Citizen David Corwin offered us a book signed by William Floyd – the grandfather of our David Gelston Floyd.  After considering the curatorial requirements of such an object, (climate control, protection from light and the like), and the limitations of our History collection’s mission, (Greenport, East Marion, and Orient), we decided to decline.  We will thank David Corwin, by letter.

Committees:

Buildings & Grounds:  The large, day-glo, “X” on our tree, the one closest to the flagpole, is a mystery.  The health of the tree itself, has been questioned, but inspection by the Village Tree Committee, has declared it “viable”.

New Garden: Capstones are finished and look fine.  The gate is finished except for the final cleaning and will be installed by the end of next week..  The border between the new wall and the sidewalk, some six to eight inches, needs finishing, maybe brick, vinca, or just dirt.  Probably vinca is best.

Personnel:  Lisa’s evaluation delayed until next meeting.  Computer breakdown.  She still has a contract.

Friends Liaison:  Chinese Auction on November 21 and a Bake Sale, coming up.
Executive Session entered at 7:30 on a motion of McCamy.  Exited at 7:37.

Meeting adjourned at 7:38 on a motion of Travis.  The next meeting will be Monday, November 2, 2009, at 7:00 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Keith McCamy, secretary
