MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER MEETING

FLOYD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Minutes (approved) of regular meeting September 14, 2009.

Members present: Keith McCamy, Rosemary Gabriel, Nancy Fischer, Maggi Travis, Michael Collins, Buffy Hartmann, Diane Mulvaney and Director Lisa Richland.

Absent: none.

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm.

The minutes of July 6, 2009 were approved on motion of 1) Gabriel, 2). Collins, unanimous.

The bills were ordered paid on motion of 1) McCamy, 2) Travis, unanimous.  The treasurer’s reports were accepted and filed for audit.

Communications.  Lisa wrote to Mitch Shapiro, President of the Foundation for Sight and Sound, to request a CCTV for those with impaired visual acuity.  He responded by telephone, happily assenting, in exchange for a press release.  The Village of Greenport thanked Lisa for attending a parking workshop.  The thirteenth annual Battle of the Books contest is announced – we have a team in it.  The University of the State of New York Education Department has amended our charter as requested.

Committees:

New Garden: Still waiting for remaining capstones.  Plant thinning started.  Row of hedge on South boundary under consideration.  Wheelies in place so the dumpster on North Street is gone.

Policy: the discovered missing subparagraph of the Personnel Policy that was proposed in March 2006 and did not get into the final document has been corrected.

Personnel:  Brian Mealy has been hired as a part-time clerk.  Approved, 1) Travis, 2) Collins, unanimous.

Friends Liaison:  The Friends met last Wednesday.  They plan a Chinese Auction on November 21 and a Bake Sale, coming up.  July was a successful month with a Book Sale at $3 a bag.  (Next year it will be $5 a bag.)

Executive Session entered at 7:30 on a motion of McCamy.  Exited at 8:17.

Director Lisa Richland is directed to engage our lawyers in the matter of the Oysterponds School Board threatening to withhold consent to this year’s tax assessment. 
1) Mulvaney, 2 McCamy, unanimous.

A new full-time librarian position for Young Adults is approved, 1) Collins, 2) Mulvaney.

 

Meeting adjourned at 8:20 on a motion of Mulvaney.  The next meeting will be Monday, September 14, 2009, at 7:00 pm.
